Ankara National Basketball Arena
Ankara Arena was conceived with program as its main driver, following the Turkish Basketball Federations award to host the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championships. The new venue replaced the nearby Ankara Atatürk Sport Hall as the home of Turkish Basketball League clubs, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Türk Telekom Basketbol and Optimum TED Ankara Kolejliler.
From inception to completion, the project required a tight timescale of 24 months. The Concept Design was developed by Robert Albanes, and included an innovative proposal to place the VIP boxes at mid tier level, and raising the VIP concourse and entrance through the use of a dramatic internal and external series of stairs and double height spaces.

The seating bowl was designed with the greatest level of flexibility, and can be reconfigured with the use of telescopic and moveable seating platforms to provide excellent viewing for a wide variety of events. This in turn optimises the capacity for differing events and ultimately maximises the revenue.
The exterior walls of the Arena are curved to address the corner site and create strong visible entrances for the approaching public. The public entrances are further highlighted by glazed double height entrance lobbies.
A flowing curved roof structure soars over the vertical walls creating a dynamic form in the landscape Civic Plaza, and creates an easily recognisable landmark building for the city.
